The Myenergi Zappi is the most popular EV charger for homes with solar panels. It connects to a CT clamp on your electricity meter that monitors your home's energy usage and solar generation in real time.
Three charging modes:
Eco+ mode — The Zappi only charges your car when you have excess solar power that would otherwise be exported to the grid. If your panels are generating 4kW and your house is using 1kW, the remaining 3kW goes straight into your car. You are effectively driving on free sunshine.
Eco mode — Similar to Eco+, but the Zappi will top up from the grid if solar generation alone is not enough to maintain a minimum charge rate. This ensures your car still charges on cloudy days.
Fast mode — Pulls the full 7kW from the grid regardless of solar generation. Use this when you need a quick charge and do not want to wait for the sun.
How much can you save? — A typical solar system in Central Scotland generates enough surplus to add 20-40 miles of free range per day during summer. Over a year, many of our customers cover 3,000-5,000 miles on solar power alone.
The Zappi app lets you schedule and monitor charging, and it works alongside smart tariffs for overnight grid charging when solar is not available.
