Yes — retrofitting a battery to an existing solar system is one of our most common jobs. You do not need to replace your panels or inverter in most cases.
An AC-coupled battery (like the Tesla Powerwall) connects to your existing system without touching your solar wiring. It sits between your consumer unit and your solar inverter, storing excess generation that would otherwise be exported to the grid. Installation typically takes half a day.
If you have a hybrid inverter already installed, we can add a DC-coupled battery directly, which is slightly more efficient but depends on your existing equipment.
Retrofit systems we install include Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh, with backup via Tesla's gateway) and Sigenergy (modular). Both work with smart tariffs like Octopus Flux, allowing you to charge overnight at cheap rates and use stored energy during peak hours.
We also retrofit batteries to solar systems installed by other companies. We assess your existing setup during a free survey and recommend the best option based on your usage patterns, tariff, and whether you want backup power during outages.
