What does it actually cost to get an EV charger fitted?
The figure for a straightforward install, what sits inside it, and the handful of things that move it.
The usual figure
Most straightforward home installs with our recommended Ohme Home Pro come in around £1,100–£1,300 including VAT.
That is the whole job, not the box.
What that assumes
- The Ohme Home Pro 7kW with its 5m charging lead
- A single-phase supply
- A house or flat with private off-street parking
- The charger going on a wall
- A cable run of up to about 15 metres
- Your existing board able to take the new circuit as it stands
- An address inside our local travel area
- VAT included

Shift any one of those and the number shifts with it. Which is why the next bit matters more than the range does.
What is in that price
The charger is only one part of the job.
- The charger itself, supplied and fitted
- The cable run from the board out to wherever the charger ends up
- Setting it up properly, the app, your account, the charging schedule
- The network-operator paperwork required for the installation, which is NOT an optional extra
- Testing, certification and the paperwork for your own records
We would rather hand you a price with all of that already in it than a lower number that grows on the day.
What moves it
Four things. Start with the board, because looks do not settle it.
What your board can take
This is the one people think they can settle by looking at the thing on the wall. You cannot. A board can look perfectly modern and still not be right for an EV circuit. The assessment includes the protection already there, the earthing arrangement and how much demand the supply is carrying, and it happens before anyone commits to a price. Where the existing board is not suitable, we fit a small dedicated EV board alongside it and feed the charger off that, and that is one of the material things that moves a price. Not the only one.
How far it has to travel
Charger on the other side of the wall from the board is the smallest version of this job, and it prices that way. Down the side of the house, round the back, under a path, that is more cable and more hours on site.
Where it goes
A wall is standard. No wall in the right spot and it goes on a post, and the post is extra.

None of that is your house, though
Our online estimate asks about your charger, your parking, the cable route and what the board is already carrying, then gives you a price built the same way we build a quote.

It is an estimate, not a fixed quote. The fixed quote comes once we have been out and surveyed the property.
Jobs we need to see first
Some jobs need eyes on them before we price them:
- Cable gullies, shared driveways and shared access
- Flats and communal supplies where the arrangement is unusual
- Workplace and fleet installations
- Underground runs, or anything else out of the ordinary
- A charger you have bought yourself, or an electrical setup that wants checking first
None of that is a problem. It is just not something anyone should price off a web form. Ring us or book a survey and we will come and look at it properly.
Questions that come up
Is VAT in the prices you show?
Yes. Every figure on this page includes VAT, and so does every figure the online estimate gives you. Nothing gets 20% added at the end.
Why is notifying the network operator part of the price?
Every EV chargepoint installation has to go through the relevant network-operator process. Depending on the property and supply, that can mean an application before the work or notification afterwards. We handle it, and it sits inside the price rather than appearing as a surprise later.
When would I need a separate EV board?
When your existing one cannot take the circuit. That is not something anybody settles by looking at it. The assessment includes the protection already there, the earthing arrangement and how much demand the supply is carrying. Where the answer is no, we fit a small dedicated board next to the existing one and run the charger from there, and that is one of the material reasons a price moves. It is why the estimate asks about your board early on.
Does a longer cable run cost more?
It does. More cable, more hours on site. Straight through the wall behind the board is the shortest run you can have, and it prices that way.
Is the online estimate the price I pay?
It is an estimate, built off the same figures we quote from, so it should not come as a shock. The fixed quote comes after the survey. Boards and cable routes have a habit of looking different in person than they do on a form.
What if I have already bought the charger?
Give us a ring. We do install-only work, we just need to know what the unit is and see what it is going onto before anybody puts a figure on it.
